Hybrid Hyporcrisy...

Look at these two pictures. Remember Sesame street - where "one of these things is not like the other thing, one of these things just doesn't belong?" (or something like that). Lessons we learned back in the day apparently don't stick so well into adulthood for some. I was on the bus on my way back from NYC recently (doing my part to be green, cause it's HOT right now) when I observed a stunning event. Stuck in traffic waiting to go through the tolls somewhere in Mass., I spot what appears to be, upon first sighting, an eco-conscious family of four in a brand new looking Prius. I think to myself, "great, some people who really get it...they bypassed a gas guzzling SUV or minivan and got themselves a nice hybrid vehicle." The ensuing events would then completely stun and confound me, leaving me in a state of shock and awe - I happened to spot the window of the Prius roll down and saw the woman calmly stick her hand out the window and toss some trash on the road. Are you for surrious? Where is it written in the 10 Eco-Commandments that if one purchases a Prius one may selectively increase one's carbon-footprint? It seems to me that we are becoming so smug & self-satisfied as a culture that if John/Jane Consumer buys a Prius, all other environmental crimes are forgiven -- Hybrid Hypocrisy? You tell me...
